Most self employed people have to make a choice at year end or sooner, assuming they had a good enough year. The choice is either to invest in something that will make their business better equipped, more efficient and more competitive or give a large portion of that money to the government that apparently couldn't make a rational fiscal decision regardless of their clear past failures at management.

If you want to see a real depression take away those incentives that put those dollars back into the economy.....as retarded as the government is, they know this. My evidence is that the amounts that is available for the section 179 style 100% first year depreciation has risen over the years, along with the special provisions to write more off that comes along now and then. Clearly when they want more spending, then taxes are adjusted to favor that activity......just as they use taxes as punitive measures for activities they want to discourage......Just look at the current talk about a "junk food" tax.....personally, I don't need a nanny....how about you?

If you want to see real "villains" in this story line when it comes to people on fixed incomes all you have to do is look what is and has happened to the ever shrinking U.S. dollar and the part our politicians failures to control themselves and our "blobbing" deficits plays into that pitiful performance. Run away food & energy inflation is making the poor more miserable.......and that's not the fault of small business folks and their investing for their personal betterment.

Government performance is very shoddy and their pretense at helping the poor can be argued successfully to be adverse to their stated purposes.....

And yeah, I know I wasted my time writing this........ but it was mine to waste......if I could just figure out how to write that off on my depreciation schedule.......lol

Perhaps I am as unsure of this as Obama is. <ng>

In either case, the amount garnered from raising taxes on the wealthy is infinitesimal compared to the spending and debt. It sounds good to those in poverty. Reminds me of the Latino lady who thinks all elderly white people should die.
