A political problem with the BBA is that Democrats in vulnerable seats could vote for the BBA, knowing it won't actually pass, and then try to use that to argue that they are tough on deficits, when the reality is they vote for leadership like Pelosi and Reid, and join in, or at best don't oppose, attempt to portray even the most modest and slow reductions in the rate of growth of spending as throwing grandma off the cliff.
