eIts not something new, but I do think to an extent its used to pull the wool over people's eyes.

Maybe there are just more newbies paying attention now. And more political populism and hyping and posturing, etc., which puts stuff in front of more people not necessarily in the most responsible way. Remember that in the 90's there was not as much political chatter.

A week or so ago I was discussing the impasse with a friend who blamed it on the fact that all these new Congressmen weren't taking the time to learn their jobs and were acting like know-it-alls. She and I had worked together so we had seen that before. Political appointees, interns, all sorts of newbies coming in thinking that they knew all the answers.

The next day on Morning Joe someone made the point that, since we have more variety in news sources now and all this chatter, we have more politicians coming in thinking that they have all the answers because that's the feedback they get from their subgroups. One of the disadvantages of no longer funneling news through establishment channels is that we have lost the profound knowledge of the reporters and their editors on the subjects being reported.

Seems to me that when you take a new job you learn the ropes, then mesh what you learn with whatever you bring to the job. You might change some of your ideas. And you surely will learn the way things work so that you're more effective in implementing them. Without new blood we get stagnant or worse. But when the new blood goes off half-cocked, either they do the wrong things or they lack the skills to do right things right.

So, maybe people not knowing what "cut" means is a function of newbie chattering classes not cluing them in either because they don't know or because the new chattering class is manipulating the followers.
