i heard something today about the Japanese postal service increasing its ownership of japanese stocks.... could well be why Nikkei was up so strong today/yesterday... much of Japanese retirement money is invested through their postal service... it is effectively a financial intermediary of HUGE proportions with substantial potential impact on rates and sentiment there....

It is interesting how estimates were bumped up on AMAT since 90 days
ago with all this Asian turmoil. I hope the analysts knew what they
were doing:

AMAT FIRST CALL Q Oct Q Jan Y Oct Y Jan
Current Mean 0.46 0.49 1.36 2.13
7-days ago Mean 0.46 0.25 1.36 2.14
30-days ago Mean 0.46 0.49 1.36 2.15
60-days ago Mean 0.46 0.48 1.36 2.15
90-days ago Mean 0.39 0.41 1.25 1.85
