BORDER=0 WIDTH=300 HEIGHT=250 ALT="Advertisement"></A>< /NOSCRIPT> Just 14% of Likely U.S. Voters now say the country is heading in the right direction, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey taken the week ending Sunday, July 31. That finding is the lowest measured since November 2, 2008, just before Barack Obama was elected president. The findings over the past two-weeks resemble the levels measured in the final months of the Bush administration. The latest figure is down from 17% last week, 21% two weeks ago and 25% three weeks ago. From August 2007 to early January 2009, confidence in the nation’s current course ranged from a low of 10% to a high of 24%. When President Obama assumed office, optimism rose to 27% and climbed to the low to mid 30s – peaking at 40% -- until May 2009. That figure has steadily declined since. Eighty percent (80%) of voters say the country is heading down the wrong track, the highest finding since early November 2008. Since January 2009, voter pessimism had ranged from 57% to 63%. Most Republicans (92%) and voters not affiliated with either political party (84%) believe the country is heading down the wrong track. Even a majority (63%) of Democrats now say the country is heading in the wrong direction. (Want a free daily e-mail update? If it's in the news, it's in our polls). Rasmussen Reports updates are also available on Twitter or Facebook . Forty-one percent (41%) of black voters say the country is heading in the right direction, a view shared by just 10% of white voters and 11% of voters of other ethnicities. Roughly half (51%) of the Political Class believes the country is heading down the wrong track, as do 88% of Mainstream voters. Voters under the age of 30 are slightly less pessimistic than their elders about the nation’s current course. Separate polling finds that voter confidence in the future of the country has returned to the lowest levels found in nearly five years of surveys. Just 32% think America’s best days are in the future. The Rasmussen Employment Index , which measures workers’ perceptions of the labor market each month, fell nearly eight points in July to the lowest level since March. Most voters disapprove of the debt ceiling agreement reached by the president and Congress earlier this week and most doubt it will actually reduce government spending. Americans still believe a college degree is a helpful tool in today’s economy , but they also continue to feel life experience is more valuable. When it comes to the professional world, Americans still list being a member of Congress as the least favorable on a list of nine professions.
