According to Spot, JXM was on the side of a cliff at 6:00 - and then nothing further. He left me a voice mail (while I was out photographing a wedding) at 10:18 saying he was continuing on. Four hours and he still hadn't reached the lakes!! And there's just a sliver of a moon. Amazed he was able to make a cell phone call. Technology just blows me away. Kids take it for granted and expect it as something that is just part of their life. ||Warning|| Rant about to begin: I was the photographer at a wedding tonight, got home and checked Facebook and all their friends had already posted all kinds of photos from the wedding. iPhone photos, which in some cases, were pretty good. Wedding photographers are going to have to find something else to differentiate themselves. Last week I did another wedding only to find that a family friend, (union-retired with a lot of money and with a very expensive rig), showed up and started acting as if he were the photographer-in-chief. Trouble is, all the equipment in the world does not make you a good photographer. I take a lot of trouble to set up a shot - get the pose and positions right - only to find that this gentleman with his very expensive rig, had taken the shot before I could back up far enough to get the shot. Then he gets in the way and gets in all my shots. After about 15 times of ruining my shot, I finally put an edge to my voice in telling him to get the frig out of my way. Then I find out he has sent out some of the photos he took in an email to the family and some of them posted them on Facebook. I did all the work setting up the shot, posing the kids and family, he takes the picture, sends it out to everyone and it's on the Internet. And the pictures suck!! Now, here's the best part: He sent me an email asking me to send him the shots he missed. To explain: My brother and I work as a team - he focuses on the guys before the wedding, and I try to catch the ladies in their preparation. Mr. Big Rig missed all the guys' shots and some of them are really fun. He also missed some other key shots. Now, he wants us to give him all of our photos so he can compile a musical CD using our photos. I now understand why professional wedding photographers put in their contract that if another photographer shows up and gets in the way, the contract is void. It should be noted that my son is really sick and tired of listening to me bitch about this. However, I spent a lifetime learning how to operate a camera and produce something that is decent enough to request payment. Then I spend hours (BTW with a broken foot and a broken hand) trying to give the bride and groom some great memories only to be usurped by a wannabe. /end of rant and bitching (for the night) LOL
