About this time last year (November 1996), Intel had bought
a small percentage of MRV Communications. There was an option
on Intel's part to buy more of the company.

When does this option expire ?

MRV at the GigNet Conference San Jose beginning 12/9:

In the exhibitor listings MRVC uses their tradename, NBase, since that's what users and prospective users knowthem by. Here's what they say:

NBASE COMMUNICATIONS
NBase is the number 4 manufacturer of ethernet workgroup switches
as measured by IDC. During 1997 Nbase has shipped over 2,700
ports of gigabit ethernet. Currently offering over 16 different switch
configurations from 2 port to 196 port, NBase has a solution for most
requirements.

NBase also specializes in fiber optic communications and is one of
the few single mode laser manufacturers in the country. As such
NBase supports link distances of up to 110 kilometers on most of
their switches. Nbase also supports Gigabit Ethernet single mode
links of 40 kilometers. NBase is a $200 million dollar company
headquarted in Los Angeles and traded on NASDAQ as MRVC

Users are not necessarily investors so the dichotomy is not played up - they tout NBase, as they should, and note that they're traded under MRVC without a big to-do about the corporate name, MRV Communications.
