Chance, I have to comment quickly on your point #2.

"2) I have to wonder why in this internet age we start the campaign anytime before Labor Day 2012 - am sick of it already,"

I whole-heartedly agree. The circus that is a US general election is insane. Each serious candidate spends something like $1 billion shouting at another candidate for a year. They have dinners, rallies, baby-kissing sessions, cozying up to minority groups for money and votes while knowing that they will screw them once in office, etc.
It is a media event, cooked up by the media because ratings go through the roof for some insane reason.
One full year in each four year term is focused on the election machine.
A full 25% of every American's life is spent watching election speeches on TV!!!

As a Canadian I just don't get the US election.
Our general election consists of a month of speeches and six lucky babies getting kissed. We as a people are under no illusion that most election promises will not be broken (LMAO!).
It is a simple and fairly quiet affair. We just get on with the voting and sit back.

Why don't these loud-mouths simply put all that money into paying down the debt and write a tweet or two?
They will reach far more people that way.
It might even put the Rush Limbaughs and Karl Roves out of business as a side benefit. ;-)

A continually amazed,
S&P

Forgive us both, for we have sinned, my son.
