PCMall has the SparQ in their ad, but don't have it in stock until the first week in December. Looked like it will reach every outlet before Christmas.

>>My IOM Ditto Drive died a couple of weeks ago and I need a back-up drive. I think I'll try a SparQ. The Ditto is less than a year old and it eats tapes. What a piece of c**p!<<

RWC -

Just curious. Did you try cleaning the heads and capstan? That's a necessary piece of maintenance on all tape drives. I've had the same problem with tape drives by Mountain, Colorado and HP. In each case, a thorough cleaning of the capstan fixed things up.

RWC,

Buy two internal IDE SyJets (take advantage of the 'trade-in' program and the 3Gb offer) use them as C: and D:. Go to CompUSA get a product called 'DriveCopy' ($24.99 from PowerQuest). You can back up your whole drive, sector by sector (FAT, FAT32, NTFS ...) from D: to C:. In case you file messed up or even your hard drive died. You can be up and running in seconds. Forget about tape drive, the only reason to use a tape drive is your company need to back up millions of customer data file or financial database in half hour, and those tape drives are very expensive.

Good luck.
