RE: Visigenic Acquisition.

I think that the acquisition is a good for BORL stockholders. I'm a little disappointed that my Nov 12.5's will probably expire worthless, but that's a risk I was willing to take. I'm fairly confident that my January Bull Spread (7.5 / 10) will be fine.

I think that Borland learned a lot from the OPEN acquisition, and that they won't make the same mistakes this time. This should be a relatively fast, painless acquisition. I like the forward guidance that the EPS will be negatively affected in the first two quarters but that the second two quarters would make up for it.

I'm not sure what to expect short-term, but this is certainly looking like a real winner for those with a one- to two-year or longer perspective.

David: Sorry for the delayed response, but my computer has been
sick. Glad you were able to get enough for your Jan 10's to get you out of the woods. I agree about the 00's. An entry point is all I am
waiting for. BORL is at 10, and holding pretty steadily. The rate of drop has slowed toa snail's pace; I doubt that we will see 9 1/5, unless the market tanks for some external reason, i.e., another desert
war of some such thing......Korean collapse, etc. I'm going to wait
and watch carefully. My real concern is how long it will take to
return to profitability. The market is very good at discounting one-time
charges, but I'm afraid that the momentem players wont get back on board until the 3rd Q of next year. My 99 15's would look much
better if they were 00's. If we get a pop back to 11 or so, I'll roll
the 99's into 00's. Long term, this looks like a super deal for BORL.
1999 could be a killer year.
Cheers and luck to all,
Jack Gibson
