I will NOT be voting for someone who wants to bring religion to government and I believe Perry does. You don't think this will be an issue in the election? Just watch!

I think that there is value in looking at Perry's governorship to see if he brought religion into state politics. I haven't done this yet, but obviously, if he has a track record of bringing religion into politics, it is a problem.

Steve.................with all due respect........I have been witnessing this obsession about religion on the part of secularists for yrs and yrs and I can't think of one president who ever used his religious beliefs as a weapon to control society. Maybe you know of one, and if so, please share, but imo, every single person who has ever sat in that chair..........and most who have run for that office.........understands and respects the Establishment Clause.

To assume that Rick Perry or Michelle Bachman would try to impose their religious beliefs on others and/or try to change our Constitution to allow them to do so is short sighted and insults their intelligence imo. I seriously doubt either one would even suggest such a thing.

Obviously, we'd all like to have our version of a dream candidate that says and does the exact things that we would do if in the same position. We've all learned that a dream candidate is never one of the options.
So, if I understand what you are saying, either social issues are more important than fiscal issues for you OR you think that Obama will change his stripes on fiscal issues.

I'm actually the exact opposite. While I have views on social issues, for me, fiscal issues trump social issues. Social issues will be going back and forth in the wind forever but, IMO, the fiscal issues need to be fixed quickly - the fiscal fix can not be delayed while we haggle over civil unions or the words of the pledge to the flag until the next election in 2016.

Jimmy Carter wore his religion on his sleeve, yet I never saw Democrats worry about him. Somehow they only fear the right is itching to impose a theocracy, for no reason I can see. Holding the occasional public prayer (perfectly in line with American tradition) as Perry recently did, makes them break out in hives. They start muttering about 'Christianists'.

It's nonsense. Really. I think the greatest part of the fear is due to the cultural divide and upper-middle-class liberal snobbery against flyover country.

BTW, I'm Jewish myself.
