<<<<<Steve, What is the number one issue that faces our nation today in your mind?>>>>>

Our debt and related to that the debasing of our dollar.

Having said that, I don't for one second believe that Perry - or any republican other than Ron Paul - will be a solution to that problem. You will play games with my answer I know; but Bush brought us two wars and told us to party on while marching our men into war. Then to make matters worse (and why don't conservatives get this) he pushed through the biggest increase this government has ever seen - Homeland Security for those who seem to forget almost as fast as people were placed on the public pay.

You want to end government as we know it I suspect - those who push for Perry do. But I want my government to protect our food source for instance that is increasing coming from foreign producers. I want my government to be sure airplanes safely. I want my government to provide a safe transportation system that crosses state lines in a coordinated way. I like much of what government does in making society better. I am not afraid of government.

How would I pay for this; bring our soldiers home. End the war mongering as brought to the gullible by the military industrial complex that Eisenhower - that awful republican warned us about. And a flat tax to get rid of the myriad stupid loopholes like home mortgages and cushy deals for the oil industry. I wouldn't have a problem balancing the budget - but farmers wouldn't get subsidies and those making insane amounts of money would lose their loopholes.
