Mike,

<My chief interest was to see if there was any empirical evidence about what might happen to the typical European manufacture, negligent telecom co., small bank, etc.>

FAIL

<I was hoping that some of them had done Y2K simulations on UNREMEDIATED code.>

Now, THAT would be a REAL waste of money!!!

No one in INTENTIONALLY goes "off-site" to test with none of their code remediated. Serves NO purposes whatsoever ... except to waste time and LOTS of money ... just to verify that they have a problem. Anyone who can afford to set up a "duplicate" system off-site already knows they have a problem. THAT'S why they "test" ... to find what STILL has to be fixed. And it ain't easy.

Sorry to be so flippant, I know you understand the seriousness of this whole "Year 2000" problem. (I always check out people I write to.)

It just AMAZES, and FRUSTRATES, me ... how many DUMB people there are out there ... still waiting for that Silver Bullet that ain't gonna happen. It's MUCH more complicated than many realize.

Personally, I find it reprehensible how some in the media are handling this. They make light of, or discount, something they don't understand. And people listen to them.

You may have seen this. It'll give you and idea what to expect.
