Bill,

I would like to ask the following:

1. What is their commitment to Irix vs. NT? Can SGI do well on both?
If, worse comes to worst, SGI has to choose between Irix and NT due
to resource constraints, what is the choice?

2. This 2nd question will get me a few flames, but I want to know so I
have to take the flames if they arrive. If NT is to play a more
important for SGI future, would SGI be willing to let go of Irix
the same way NCR is to let go of its flavor?

3. For data warehouse market, what are their current plans on TPCD
measurements? Testimonial advertisements w/o any common
measurements is not a credible story.

4. What is their projected revenue/employee in the new model?

I don't expect you to ask all of my questions, but anything is better
than nothing. How do you arrange this meeting? In what capacity? Don't
I wish to sit in with you! Have fun!

-Al

Hi Bill,

Please ask when SGI will hire a CFO.

Thanks,

Phil

To Bill,
I noticed that HP has a nice little section on their website,
delineating their position on NT, their own brand of Unix, their own
Risc chip, Merced, and Java. SGI has a section at their website
delineating the advantages of Unix over NT in terms of servers.
Apparently, SGI has made their chip plans and operating systems
plans clear to customers; I was wondering however why their website
does not contain a formal articulation of their plans. As I have
previously posted, I think the use of NT and Intel chips, while
perhaps necessary from a long term perspective, has the potential
to create confusion for SGI's current and potential customers. While
I am well aware that SGI 'ees on this thread have repeatedly stated
that the low end NT box is an "addition," I remain a bit mystified
as to why the co. seems unable or unwilling to set out a formal
articulation of its plans. Even DEC, I might note, has tried
to reassure its base, albeit somewhat vaguely, with statements
from its senior management regarding Alpha.
