CB, you are supposed to hate the Anglos. TJ thinks that Hong Kong is as good as it is because it has people Made in China there. Which begs the question as to why the same people just over the border have never achieved a hint of the same and they still live in fear of arrest and serious punishment if they say anything a little out of line.

It was Virtuous Victorian Values which made Hong Kong what it is. To the extent that China adopts said values, they too can do well. They have adopted some. They are doing better than before they did. But the idea of freedom is beyond them. The idea of Tradable Citizenship and the state being the property of the citizen, rather than the citizens being the property of the state, is an idea that is beyond their limited intellects. Monkey see, monkey do with a good slogan to believe in is how most human "thinking" is done. That's how the housing boom and bust came to be.

The Mindless Zombies looked around, saw everyone else buying houses and getting rich. There were handy slogans lying around, such as "House prices never go down".

You're telling a different story CB than I am referring too.. they were not empire building.. Maybe if they were not first it would have been different and it certainly became different later on.. like the obliteration of the Hurons for one by their cousins the Iroquois league.. but that is the nature of man as is the nature of man to be kind.. I was referring specifically to British expansion in the Victoirian era not being one of altruism.. I make no other judgments on it.. good or bad.. .. At any rate.. my paternal ancestor missed that bridge and came much later by boat :O)
