Before anyone starts watching DVD movies on their computer, there's going to have to a revolution in display technology. What's the point of a high definition digital movie if you're watching it on a 15" (or even a 21", if you have one) monitor?

The next generation of cheap, high resolution flat screen display technology is years from reaching mainstream consumer markets. Until it gets here, DVD movies are nothing but an expensive toy for techno-geeks.

Don't think DVD movies are the killer ap that will save Intel's profit margins.

Elmer,

Re: "These guys are behind on the technology curve, their quality
levels are poor, and their costs are higher. They're simply not competative in the CPU
business."

You are exactly right with your comments ... TSMC, Chatered, Tower ...
are just ASIC silicon foundries. These ASIC foundries offer IC processes
that have mid-performance FET's coupled with dense interconnect technology.
This type of process would be difficult for AMD to "port" their design
AND have anywhere near acceptable performance.

I have personally visited both TSMC and Chartered and I agree with your
comments on cost, quality and the fact that these two foundries are a
minimum of 1 full generation behind Intel in technology.

Make It So,
