"bear market rallies" may yield great returns even in delevering economy.

Rallies I can deal with. The sudden drops are what I am having hard time dealing with. Psychologically, it would be nice to have some uncorrelated returns. NLY is the only thing working out in the short term. Does anyone else have any investment that is working out in this environment? Also to take advantage of "bear market rallies" it seems to me you have to time the market. Maybe buy really cheap and sell when it's somewhat cheap instead of waiting for fair value. It seems to me that buy and hold isn't going to work out too well. What do others think?
