That's The British Disease in America. There is a Made in China car we had a quick look at last evening. cheryinternational.com NZ$16,000 and it's near-enough to like a Toyota Corolla which costs about twice the price. They are going to sell many of those in NZ.

NZers are feeling fairly impoverished these days having gone on a $200 billion borrow and hope spree to bid up the price of their houses. The borrowed money made them feel rich and the price of houses was rising, making them feel richer. They made each other coffees and meals, paid the government lots which made them feel rich and the government bribed hordes of bludgers to vote for them which made them feel rich. Overseas holidays were normal. Ooooops... "What? Borrow and hope isn't an economic activity? You mean my house is going DOWN in price?!! What the? I thought houses only go UP in price. So it has gone down in price but I still owe the same even though my job isn't paying me much? Arrggghhhh.... What's your stupid VVV anyway? Stuff that."

There are swarms of commercial buildings for sale. Retail space is getting cheaper and sitting empty. But remarkably, NZ$ is still at US78c [was 88c at the peak] so there is plenty of room to go yet to the bottom.
