Z, > I don't really want to see a "class war." It's just a fun piece of rhetoric. But out of control inequality is not good for the people of this country, and I would say that inequality growing almost constantly for well over a generation is out of control. It does need to be fixed.

Agreed, but the best way is proper education.

And by that, I don't mean throwing money at it.

The Left cites this in one form or another, constantly. But the reality is there is nothing to be done about it. Wealthy families -- e.g., the Kennedys, are going to stay wealthy no matter what.

The Kennedys are a perfect example due to the extraordinary number of untimely deaths they have suffered. Even with estate taxes operating on their corpus of assets, and key family members dying in an untimely manner, massively extravagant lifestyles, etc., the family still controls a dynasty of hundreds of millions of dollars.

In the more typical wealthy family, e.g., the Waltons, there is literally no way to stop the pooling of resources unless they DECIDE to give it away. You can income tax them at 75%. You can take more than half in death taxes. It doesn't matter. Because these fortunes, whatever they are, double every ~8-10 years, or 10 times in a typical lifetime. A little less if you tax at rates so high it stifles capital formation (not good for ANYONE).

You can't solve the problem of pooling of financial resources amongst people who make money. It is going to happen.

No matter how much you hate on people who are more successful than you, they're still going to have more money. Think of it as natural selection.

Z, class warfare is at the heart of Marxism.

---and I would say that inequality growing almost constantly for well over a generation is out of control...

So when they can't make a reasoned argument or try their hand at a solution to the widening wealth gap, they start using the M and S words...in fact if there is any reason to bring marx into this conversation it is to note that he reasons that, in capitalist systems, an unsustainable wealth gap is inevitable...for the 50 years following WW2 the US proved him wrong...now we need to go back and see if we can do that again for the coming century without suffering through a revolution or nasty conflagration...
