There is a basic contradiction in what you say. You have to decide whether universal suffrage results in lowest common denominator or if it is only kabuki theater and elites are really in control. If the latter, it's not different than China.

Not sure about K's contradiction.. but universal suffrage in itself is not the issue I think... the masses are manipulated of course.. but the elites have a lot of stupid people (history tells the tale) in control..

it is a question of getting the best and brightest in control.. (we are told that is what our politicians are currently... which makes me gag..)
