you don't understand what I was saying -- it has nothing to do with the value and everything to do with the rate of change. And -- LOL -- I am not trapped in any bear positions -- I punted for some nice profits -- could I have made more at the bottom today -- sure -- but I'll be back ... I only had doubles on TYP calls and XLF puts -- decent profits on BGZ, TYP and TZA longs -- WTH ??-- maybe you are a trapped long. I have lost some money on some long miner positions -- smaller part of the pf -- but I still think they will rally

if you would look at a near term chart of the vix and the market you would understand -- before the first really big break to the downside this year -- VIX was flat signalling no body thought we could break to new lows -- we proceded to have the first serious downdraft. I remember that well because I closed some bear funds for minor profits when I could have held on for two days and cleaned up.

Now look at the two "ears" in the VIX -- we've broken new lows but have not had the rate of change we had with the first ear there when we had the first break

I stand by my call -- the lows are not in -- I'll go further -- we are in a generational bear market -- everything from 08 to recent history was a bear market bounce ...

I don't care if you can figure it out or not -- I wasn't talking about the absolute value of the VIX -- I was talking about the rate of change in concert with the market action -- to me it says we have no significant bottom. Does it make sense to stay short in every bear market rally -- heck no ... I'll be short again, soon enough.

the compelling argument is that the charts show us in a clear downtrend still on anything other than a st time and a very long time frame basis
