Maybe some folks just get tired of the handle they are using and want to use a new one.

Don't have a problem with the ability to change handles.

I do, however, like the suggestion that if folks want to become reincarnated with a new name that their old one is available to check.

I went ahead and disabled the ability to self-change an alias.

I'll revisit the issue on the 2012 SI and build in some kind of alias-change tracking system, if the feature exists at all. In the meantime if someone absolutely must change their alias (for privacy reasons, or a slight alteration that won't confuse anyone), they can ask an admin to change it for them.
