Most of it is so ridiculous. I have a relative that has close to a hundred grand in debt for his archeology degree. He was inspired to be an archeologist watching a PBS show. There is no chance of him ever paying off his debt or being an archeologist. A prerequisite for getting a student loan should be first having a journeyman in a trade like welding, carpentry, hair dressing - anything that shows the candidate can get useful employment after attainment of the degree.
