Any flat income tax plan will negatively affect the bottom 50%, who pay almost no income taxes. Furthermore, with the top 10% currently contributing 70% of income taxes, it's hard to devise any simplification which doesn't add taxes to the bottom 90%.

all right. i am ignorant on the subject. what income taxes do retired people in the usa have to pay, and what, if any, is withheld from their social security checks? i know over 65 people get medicare premiums taken out of checks, but i don't know much more than that. i am looking for some concrete info on what retired people pay in taxes from govt. checks. i don't need info on their dividend or cap gains taxes. thanks.
