Apparantly the contrarian fund must be the major shorter. Didn't someone research in an earlier post show that they were short 275,000 shares or so! Question to one of our web analysts? Is it legal for a board member to short his own stock? Also, is it legal for a holding company with a representative on the board to short the company stock.
I would think the answer to both of these would be no, and if that's the case, the shorter would almost have to be either the contrarian fund or one of our own analysts' companies. No one else seems to know much about this stock yet! I don't think it's going to remain in the mode it's in where it is subject to that sort of action, if in fact, that kind of action is happening for long!

P.S. If you think this post is long and boring, I just read the entire discussion by the House Sub-Committee leading up to the passage of the INS bill. JeeZ-Louise was it long and boring. Main parts I picked up is that we are expecting 1.8 million new applications this year. Without the new fingerprint system, we would be letting about 1/4 of them into our country with no background check of which a fair amount would be criminals already.

Brad, The "short guys are about to get creamed" line is beginning to get as old as Kessler's target of $18 within twelve months. (that one is over a year and a half old and has not been revised). I sense that many long holders of IDX are beginning to push out the time frame as it relates to their expectations for the stock price. If the INS does buy a substantial amount of equipment from Identix this year, and the one time huge order gives us a good run, I will consider selling a bunch of my long held stock and getting back in later. After all, Kessler quietly moved his .40 EPS projections from 1998 to 1999. I know that you and others have predicted $1.00 EPS FYE June 1998 and have not publicly moved from there, its starting to get late in the year with only .04 (.02) behind us. I know there are a lot of big projects ahead, but as we have seen, those kinds of things take a substantial amount of time to go from planning stage to money on the bottom. And even then, as with Oracle which many thought would be a huge boon to IDX revenues, ramp up is very, very slow.
I love the company and its position. I just question the comments that suggest that the party is about to happen. -Hal
