The following quote is from the Techweb article referred
to by Greg M.:

One group has started to examine a standard way to
implement a core subset of I2O functions on just an
ASIC, without using a full-blown processor and RTOS.
The result could be I2O fixed-function adapters that
not only cost less than the current implementations,
but run faster as well.

Would one of the technical experts (e.g., David Lehenky)
like to comment? What is an ASIC? What might be the
possible effects on WIND? Thanks,

Doug Ulmer
