Carl & John, if you want to try to soak up some of the rich premiums on the options, there are much safer ways than naked call writing. Try a "long butterfly" or "long condor" to benefit from the decay with limited losses if the stock moves far either way. On the other hand, given that this stock is not expected by anyone to sit still for very long and that the premiums are rich, the opposite positions, i.e. "short butterfly" or "short condor", would allow you to pocket a net credit if the move is far either way with limited downside if it sits still. BTW, I'm not explaining these positions here because, if one doesn't know what they are or doesn't have a good book to explain it, then one probably should not do it.

Bob

PS: If you really know your deltas, how 'bout a "put ratio backspread"?

>>>The stock didn't even flinch.<<<<

Not exactly true.....the stock fell from 65 to 44 in the 2 weeks before the lockup period ended, in anticipation of the dilution......now AMZN also started trading options, so there are alternative ways to sell the stock with various options strategies....but bear in mind, there will be overhanging supply on any move up for many months to come......;^)

Alomex,

The stock won't really move from lockup shares until some selling is actually done! This could be soon or up to a year away. We could see S-3 forms filed as soon 98Q1, but that's just a guess.

Even with a secondary the stock may continue to fly high until a little fear of competition sets in. B&N and Borders should start firing up the internet business early next year also.

I expect AMZN to have about the same profile as EGRP, which has crashed just recently to about 50% from the high.
