Gun-ownership levels in the U.S. have risen sharply over the past few years, reaching their highest point since 1993. According to a Gallup poll, 47% of American adults report that they have a firearm on their property, up from 41% a year ago and 42% a year before that. The poll also found that public support for gun rights is at an all-time high, which could have affected results, reflecting "a change in Americans' comfort with publicly stating that they have a gun as much as it reflects a real uptick in gun ownership," Gallup noted. By political affiliation, Republicans are more likely than Democrats to say they have a gun in their household -- 55% vs. 40% -- although "this partisan gap is narrower than that seen in recent years," Gallup said.
