TI is hardly a play on the ADSL market. For that matter,
neither is Amati any longer.

Word to the wise ... if you, like I, believe this technology
is ripe to take off, then you should look elsewhere. The good
news is that there are still some pure ADSL plays out there.

Who is the most likely company to get the R&D engineers that will not be required by TI? Whoever gets the modem design engineers would obviously get a leg up in both time to market, feature set and compliance with any designs.

Hi bill,

I expect to be buying back in WSTL in the future. It's treated me good in the past. But, I sense no urgency to do so. The xDSL's got caught on a protracted time line. AMTX ran out of time and WSTL is running short of time. WSTL will probably have sufficient cash to endure the delayed deployments. Where would you look for major support/price entry? C ya on Westell turf in the future. Good luck for now.

Bill --

I believe there'll be a time to buy Westell and I'll be watching closely. The orders they're inheriting have yet to make money and if they're asked to seed the market, as both companies have been doing, it's going to take capital.

TI has every reason to want Westell to succeed and along with Gary Seamans's drive and tenacity, the company could do very well, provided, of course, they get intellectual property. I'm being cautious because I realize there's a desert to cross before they reach the Promise Land. Perhaps the income from the shelf registration will be used in part to run the company.

You know I believe in the technology and will be watching Westell from the sidelines until I see how it weathers the transition. However, I would be remiss if I didn't encourage you to use every ounce of your wits and every connection you have to find out what Cisco's doing with GTE. I've heard enough to know I'll genuflect if I ever meet John Chambers. They are not a shoo-in but with Amati out of the running, there are others standing in the wings --- Alcatel, Siemens, and NEC come to mind. Why on earth Lucent doesn't swoop up Amati and Westell both and put a U.S. company in the line-up, I'll never know.

Someone suggested Siemens should buy the TI/Amati combo. Now, that would be power!

The music's just beginning and for now I'm letting TXN take me to the dance.
