David Brooks is their house conservative, quite a level headed guy - which these days comes across as wimpish.

isn't brooks the guy liberal dems like to say is a conservative at the ny times? (just like mark zandi is said to be a republican economist just because he was john mccain's guy in 2008. zandi is famous for loving all the $850B borrow and stimulate bill, and zandi supports the same with the $450B the dems want now.) this sentence below in brooks' piece is just not true (less of a statesman would say a lie.). "So far, the Obama administration has done a good job of trying to promote fracking while investigating the downsides." obama's administration has not promoted fracking. they have just not tried too hard to stop it. the government guy that really had to go to bat for fracking was governor ed rendell of pennsylvania, and Luckily he was term limited out of office. thus i think he could act without so much hand wringing about another election fight. obama has his epa people studying fracing regulations, and who knows what those guys will devine as issues to contemplate or study forever.
