<<<You've got to be kidding.>>>

You're right of course. The word is not complacent, it should have been "defensive". Complacent does not in any way convey the thought I was trying to convey. (I must have been educated in a rural school district)

I'm curious if any results-based scientific educational experiments are being performed anywhere in America? I see huge difficulties with this, as actual children with actual parents would have to be used. You know, a test class of a promising method, a control class, etc.

<<<Real change is happening all over the country. There is actually so much change it's hard to keep up with it all. What would be nice is to be able to document what change is working, and for which students.

A lot of time it is nothing more than having the available resources. As mentioned, I watched Contra Costa Community college near richmond andn San Pablo, save half the kids I knew in Richmond and I would bet over 90% went on to four year colleges and they all did just fine. I do not know a single person who went on that did not complete their degree.

And I'll bet that is the norm for every city in California that has a close by community college.

One other thing. I did a lot of teaching when I was young and most people are average and average people can do great things and understand tremendous complexity. It just takes time and a desire to chew through it.
