"If the world is collapsing so badly why is oil up?" #1, the World isn't collapsing... entitled society is collapsing as some are actually waking up to smell the coffee. Last gasps to keep others over paying for some types of jobs where you get to retire early and don't have to compete to keep them... lead to protests all over the globe. Occupy Oakland, where in CA we are little different than Greece from its huge underground economy to government workers retiring in their early 50s.... the news today in the SJ Mercury was the protest if driving jobs OUT of Oakland and small business run by the 99% have seen sales crash.. #2 Oil is up same reason Gold is not at $300/oz any more... the political solution in the US is print money to steal wealth from savers while deflating the currency. Europe is much older and savers there are far more powerful so it won't be so easy. #3 The good news for stocks, something I've kept in mind since the bubble started to take off in the 1990s, is the internet and global economy helped productive businesses. And now they have less competition from cushy government jobs for productive workers. Notice how governments are laying workers off left and right or not replacing them and yet industry can't find enough qualified "workers." I am sure they can find plenty who want to make huge wages, retire early and not worry about being fired for goofing off.....
