Bill l have sat in the weeds for the most part on this thread and have listened to likes of yourself and others Curly, Bobby D, Trey, Pat . I have enjoyed your viewpoints and the knowledge base that you bring . The bottom is that Westell is still a story stock and untill they can show some earnings or large volume commitments it will float and be manipulated by the MM's. If one really believes in the company it's best to be long, the day to day girations will make you gray

<.. and I'll tell you why it doesn't matter if TI or Westell owns them. I'm ready...>

Here's my take:

Remember the emphasis GS placed on being able to deliver the CHEAPEST solution?

Clearly in the hot market that ADSL will eventually be, all the major players will be jockeying for a seat. It'll probably get pretty rough, and the big boys have the dollar-clout to bully out all but the top few. Without Amati, it becomes more difficult (not that it would have easy WITH them) to compete and make a profit. The BIG deployments may go to the BIG companies attempting to dominate the market with loss-lead pricing.

Clearly ADSL will continue to evolve. Not having the engineering expertise in-house to develop and sell the breakthrough tech at the cheapest cost (or at a LOSS for long enough to achieve some dominance) is perceived as a dark cloud over them.

I can see this point.

Steve

Ownership of the patents does not matter. They can easily be licensed. But having thorough expertise in DSL fundamentals does matter. Amati a tiny company of 1/10 the size of Westell got almost 1/2 of Westells marketcap because of its intelectual property and expertise.
