Think of those mechanistic responses that have evolved and are innate in our neural framework that reach far far back to more primal experience , written into the codes that form the hardwiring of our brains ...from long ago .

Have you ever come close to falling off a ladder or something almost fall on you startling out of the corner of your eye from up above ? Or been in a near accident and instinctively thrown out your arms & hands to try & cushion the blow of impending collision ?

That sense of hair raising on back of neck when something seems present out there in the dark or some intruder in an empty house and those emotions of fear & panic that flood the system . Or the rage that can follow when someone sideswipes your car on the road who swerved over & cut you off ? Or what a mother must feel when she turns around to find that her child is gone and she goes into panic mode ?

This is Nature my friend , you don't need to get into advanced micro biology but common sense intuitively informs you these responses arose out of millions of years of repeated experience in the environment . Trying to disprove these universal responses with microbiology is overreaching and trying to say somehow these were all "heaven sent" when they rose out of nature is the more plausible approach .

My "intuitive" response to molecular science is starting with how molecules/atoms of the elements are created right from the beginning, in the dense cores of the stars themselves . We didn't discover helium till we noted it in the Sun originally and now we know that this progressive formation of heavier elements are forged in the solar furnaces . From lighter Hydrogen on up thru fusion ... there is no stasis in the solar furnaces that requires a helping hand from above .

Somehow that informs me that there is , no matter how improbable to our more naive history of understanding this great majestic alchemy now known that gives rise to all the other elements of matter in the universe . This process only 2 centuries ago would not have been possible to have even dreamed of or concieved . And so it may remain for present day biochemists to unlock the mechanisms of the rise of complexly ordered systems of inorganic to cybernetic chains but like solar evolution & element formation the mechanism will surely be found .

Is it blind watchmaker or ID ?

Well that depends whether you are a poet or a scientist and what specific area you have labored your life in (or chose to be indoctrinated in )but most people should strive to be a little of both yet there will always simply be extremes and no one so far "wins" . The appreciation & knowledge of the process is essential and where there are limits those limits will be naturally investigated till the answers are found , as long as we have the liberty to explore , gather data & continue building on current understanding .
