No, I buy a $3 fresh loaf of sourdough or a $3 German Rye at Tower Market, that I can't possibly buy at Safeway.

I don't think it's a very good analogy though and the whole thread about warehouse stores is kinda irrelevant to Intel vs. Cyrix.

The point is though that a lot of people WILL pay the premium for quality (even if it's just their preception :-)

Jim, I think this post misses some very important elements in it's comparisons. A microprossesor is a complex piece of machinery, not some dough rolled a little differently.

One of the main problems NSM/Cyrix and AMD face along with being consistently behind the technology curve, is the publics perception that their chips won't work as well with all the software available.

This may be only a perceptual problem, however, it exists and continue's to plague the acceptance of AMD and Cyrix into the mainstream, and especially business computer market.

Most people are somewhat amazed by how a computer works, and above all, they want to feel assured that what they are buying will work and work well.

The name Intel and Pentium, means one thing to people. Quality.

AMD/NSM/Cyrix, still have a long road to travel until this perception is erased. Intel chips will command a higher price until then.
