Apple is not defending the iPhone or iPad, cause they know they can't defend something that existed before, in one way or another (selecting icons on a screen is nothing new; selecting with your finger on a screen was invented well before the iPhone and iPad). Instead, they have become a patent troll and nothing more.

BREAKING...More than 700,000 Android devices activated daily
More than 700,000 Android devices activated daily
by Phil Nickinson on 12/20/2011 | Filed Under: News; Tags: android, activation, device, smartphone, devices, tablet, tablets, activations | 2 comments

Google's Andy Rubin tonight on Google+ announced that more than 700,000 Android devices are being activated every day. That's 29,166 devices (more or less) activated every hour. Or 486 devices every minute, or by the time you finish reading this post.

Rubin also explained what counts as an "activation," saying:

"We count each device only once (ie, we don't count re-sold devices), and "activations" means you go into a store, buy a device, put it on the network by subscribing to a wireless service."

That's up just a skosh from the 500,000 devices Rubin announced in June. Dang.

The "more than 700,000 activations per day" does NOT include WiFi only units like the kindle fire and the many wifi tablets, and is only carrier activated devices. So the number could be closer to 800,000 than 700,000... which means the number of Android devices per quarter could be closer to 70,000,000 than 65,000,000... and this would be 100% growth since May.... awesome....
