(darkest interregnum), just in in-trayFrom: M Sent: Saturday, December 24, 2011 6:50 AM Subject: Re: Comments - Week of Dec. 19 One California friend who sounds as if he's giving up.... MActually, with AMT most Californians who are footing the bill already cannot deduct income or property taxes. I guess you can deduct sales taxes with records and itemization. We started looking for houses elsewhere as soon as Gov Brown’s latest tax the rich proposition was presented. The problems are: 1. Who will buy our house thereby buying into the scheme and 2. What other state is better net net in terms of taxes, quality of life (such as it is) and schools (meaning private and close by). Texas looks pretty good, but prop tax rates are 5x California, thereby offsetting a lot of the benefit of no state income tax. Other states are COLD (like Wyoming). We are even thinking of becoming ex pats and living in Axxxxxx. Sounds ridiculous, but if you keep your USDs outside, the dollar-based cost of living is very low, the private schools are superb and most of the services are a rough equivalent of San Francisco. The key thing there is socking-it-to-the-Gringos by seizing their real estate. Don’t know what we will do, but we are certainly motivated.
