My paternal grandmother used to go on and on about our ancestors who fought wars going all the way back to the Revolutionary War. She heard the stories from her folks who heard them from their folks and they got all the way to me. My ancestors didn't save letters (although that's probably not true, and I think most of them went down a different branch)..................but they sure told stories about the family. Stories that went back generations. I wish she'd written them down as the details are vague to me now. I do have copies of records of the men, where they fought, for how long etc. I think it is now up to me to write something like a diary to at least sort out names and dates and events and put them in chronological order.

Folks talked about grandpas who'd fought in the Revolution, even everyday life in the period preceding.
