It's always easy to single out the stupidity in minority positions- much rougher to confront the majority. Strikes me as unfair. Not that life is fair, or anything.

Also, the Christian religion has had 2000 years to clean itself up, with hundreds of years where the church had TOTAL political control, and total control over all texts and documents. Where Joe Smith cooked up his religion with skeptical Americans watching and taking notes, in perfectly understandable English. What's amazing is that it survived his death - something I believe only happened because Brigham Young (who expressed doubts about Smith himself) led the faithful out to remote (then) Utah, where what they heard could be controlled.
