Stossel had an interesting program recently. Couple guests made the claim we're hard wired to accept the leftist premises, primitive though they be.

Through most of human existence we banded in small tribes, dependent on those we were in direct contact with. Further, dependent on tribal leadership. The only way to get much beyond the merest subsistence was theft from those outside the tribe. Nature red in tooth and claw.

The benefits of refinements in the division of labor, sometimes involving unrecognized partners on the other side of the planet, and learning to assign shifting and relative values, simply hasn't penetrated. Capitalism only began to develop a mere five centuries past. For a big part of that time it was confined to the British Isles and Northern Europe, then here.

The lessons only began to sink in for the Chinese a mere thirty years ago, fifteen for India.

Given time, the hayseeds may catch on.
