After so many years of debating on SI, I tire arguing the meaning of words. If you were unsure of what I meant in the post, just ask and I'll do my best to clear up my line of thinking. Yes, words do have meaning, but words also have multiple meanings and ways of interpreting the dialogue based on the context.

In regard to the similarity between Obama and Paul. Obama and Paul share the same vision of chalkboard classroom ideas becoming policy prescriptions with little consideration toward human beings changing their behavior based on the changing circumstances. What do you really think would have happened to New Zealand in the past 50 years had rogue nations/bandits and others not been aware the U.S. Navy was somewhere over the horizon protecting the rule of law? Do you think China would have sat back after the thrashing they took in WWII and not looked south for wealth and power? How about Japan? Do you think you would have any fish left in the 200 miles economic zone around NZ relying on 4 mediocre war ships to protect it?

After experiencing relative peace for decades, it's easy to envision a world that would have looked the same had no American military been present. However, I suspect many of the nations in the Pacific would look quite different if it had not been for the quiet presence of the American military since WWII.

The explosion of world commerce by the sea has been made possible because one superpower supported freedom and the rule of law. Had America not been present, the Iron Curtain could have easily been expanded beyond the Sea of Okhotsk and stripped every precious whale off the coast of New Zealand. What do you think kept the massive Soviet Navy in their place for 40 years? The ideology of libertarianism, or the weapons on American war ships?
