<<<It's fascinating to watch the Reps drift more and more to a Randian view and run on a platform of pulling the US back into the nineteenth century>>>>

Fascinating comment and one I largely agree with. But juxtaposed with this ideology is the blind ugliness of the fundamentalist like in South Carolina. That this Randian view that is espoused by that fundamentalist block is from the ideologies of the most ardent atheist is a fascinating irony.

Brave Olde World

Great line. I agree with you that the Aynimation of the Rep party is a recipe for disaster (for them). Even Ayn found she needed the collective at the end of her life- most people find that out a lot earlier. We really are all (or mostly all) socialists- scratch a teaparty dork and you'll often find a socialist- getting medicare, soc security, retirement checks from the government, or from a business that was unionized enough to get retirement (gasp)- and while there certainly are a fair number of hypocrites (like Ayn) who think it's ok for them to get socialized benefits they can happily deny to others, most people don't function (or malfunction) that way. Thank goodness.
