Liberals would also say it is not good for any society to have the 6 waltons or top 400 richest people having more than the bottom 150 million people. Income inequality of that magnitude is poisenous to a civilized society; and futhermore society has the right to change it and science says it needs to. Well Koan, I don't think that liberals and conservatives disagree on the so much on the desired end as they do on the best way to achieve it. I can tell that you are an intelligent person and passionately believe the best means to that end is a much bigger role for government than I do. I also believe that most folks have good intentions (and there certainly are exceptions). I believe that I live in the greatest country in the world and it achieved that status because it enabled and empowered its citizens instead of the institution. In a complex environment, many solutions are counter-intuitive, the good-intentioned means that are utilized to correct inequalities (either real or perceived) more often than not exacerbate the problem.
