Renters get cheaper rent because of the deduction.

you will crash the housing market if you get rid of the deduction. Prices will fall by 20-30%

so you want to tax Romney at 39% how are you gonna do that, tax all cap gains at 39%. that's gonna hurt investments.

Tax his tax free bonds at 39%, there goes building schools and roads.

Governments role is not to be in bed with banks - Fannie and Freddy -

correct.

but as a regulator.

incorrect.. the federal government's role is it protection, not to provide a thing. it's supposed to be there to protect our lives, property and rights. it's not supposed to protect us from our sometimes stupid actions using our free will. state and local governments can be more specific than that. that's so we can vote with our feet to another state, if one of them starts to get oppressive or tyrannical.

Furthermore, the deduction for the home mortgage needs to end now. Even that is a subsidy to home owners by government and it is paid for by those whose house is paid for and by renters.

agreed, but many are addicted to it and feel that it's now some kind of 'right'. it won't be easy to end.

But prices because of this government involvement we have a long ways to go down yet.

maybe not a lot lower from here, but lower, yes. we just don't know what the prices should be. a free market would discover the price.

Because of government involvement and over supply.

the over supply is BECAUSE of government involvement.

But that isn't Obama's fault -

he's been in support of bailouts also.

that's the fault of several adminstrations before him all taken to new heights of ridiculousness under Bush.

i generally agree. bush listened to the keynesians. he shouldn't have. but obama has continued the disastrous policies. you can't have government even a 'little bit' involved. it has to get all the way out.
