The common theme in those examples is that the "progressives" are ignoring the incentives they create, and ignoring indirect effects more generally. Its as if the order of importance was 1 - Intentions 2 - Direct effects 3 - Overall effects when in reality the importance is reversed. Either that or they just fail to recognize the incentives and other indirect effects they create.

1. Against child labor in foreign countries The reason that children work is to feed themselves and their families. Take away their work and they starve to death. Liberals would rather children starve to death than work to feed themselves. Great job liberals!!! >> Liberals are as pragmatic as conservatives. But we also know it is important to fight for safe working conditions for children. <<2. Force union memberships to get jobs. Unions force higher wages for the workers Businesses look to their survival and profitability (as they should), they find workers who are willing to do the same job for less money in other countries. Jobs move overseas. Liberals bitch about lack of domestic jobs when they are the ones who caused the situation. Rock On Liberals!>> That was the same BS they used agianst unions in the 30's. Unions are essential. Things only got better for workers whne we established unions. That is proven by history. If the worker does not have someone to fight for them corporations will take advantage of them. Society has the right to allow workers to have unions. Which workers damn well need! The 50's was the highest period of both unions and taxes and the most prosperous time for the middle class, and for we Americans. How do you square that? <<3. Raise Minimum Wage Same result as #2. If the job isn't worth more money, then the business will eliminate the position. So instead of more people making less money. You have fewer people making more money. Yeah Liberals! >> Baloney. So let us do what they do in China is what you are advocating. How do you feel about sweatshops? Is it OK to go back to them. Seems like that is what you are advocating. <<4. Affirmative Action a. Businesses have to worry about legal action if they fire a minority, gay, woman, elderly, for cause. Result, businesses find valid reasons to avoid hiring protected classes. >> We beat up the African Americans for 400 years. Slavery, segregation, black chain gangs in the south. Destroyed their culture and families, and even made laws that it was illegal to even teach African American's to read. So society has to make up for that. b. Since standards are lowered for protected classes, it is easy to dismiss the qualifications of those who get into a college or get a job. Further, it insults the individuals in the protected classes by suggesting that they are not good enough to get the position on their own. Way to kill self esteem Liberals!!!>> Oh stop it. 5. Economic Stimulus Cash for Clunkers causes a momentary spike in sales in the auto industry which is followed by a slump in sales. They robbed future sales for immediate economic gratification. The story of Liberaland boiled down to its essence.>> Like I said, you conservatives lack empathy and compassion; and that is why African Americans vote over 90% dem in every race. Why do you think African Americans vote over 90% dem in every race? A persecuted people damn well knows who is their friend and who is their enemy!
