Re: Sun's Numbers
In the unlikely event that anyone from SGI's marketing dept. reads
this thread, rather than turn the other cheek or pooh-pooh Sun
as a competitor, perhaps your co. might deem it appropriate to
really stick to Sun Microsystems when it overreaches, as apparently
happened in this case. It seems like this situation tends to call
into question Sun's credibility as a high-end computer vendor and
provides a nice little opportunity to diminish a competitor's
goodwill as well as reassert SGI's primacy as the most competent
vendor in the high end marketplace.
I guess I do not understand why Sun Microsystems issues press releases, directly challenging Silicon Graphics vis-a-vis performance figures and rebate offers, and so far anyway, it seems the only response, while clearly helpful, is a usegroup posting that contains the usual disclaimer of corporate sponsorship and a stated concern, although perhaps tongue-in-cheek, that SGI as a corporation might be dismayed about the posting's lack of tack. It's time to protect
your company's goodwill!
