Ok, the only remaining barrier to having ZIP as the standard "floppy" drive in all new computers is production.

Iomega's Capacity was around 8 million/year at the start of 1997. Last numbers I heard where around 12 million. With the other OEM's coming online soon with around 200,000 a month there is still a lot of ramping that needs to be done.

How many computers a year does Dell or Compaq sell? Micron is standardizing on the ZIP as the A: drive because it can receive enough ATAPI drives from Iomega to meet its demands. The only reason that Dell doesn't make the ZIP standard on all their systems is that Iomega couldn't supply that many drives.

When Iomega and its partners can ramp up to 16 MM, 24 MM, or more...then it will be the standard and we'll all be a whole lot
richer!

IOM got "more and more popular" once before, and the threads got trashier and trashier. The worst thing happening to IOM is the way that it is being bought up by some of the world's greasiest investors.
