So it is the mandated spending that has to be tackled resulting government and unions . Thanks for that point-----I will remember that.

I presume that some of those mandates are state and federal both----is that correct?

Ahh... misery loves company!! I have a similar position in government. Tonight I go to hear how my township has to save a barn close to the township office. It's essentially an oversized corrugated tin shack currently in the process of "Demolition by neglect" which the township has no use for and is a fire/safety hazard to boot.

Estimated cost to get it up to merely fit for agriculture is (drum roll please) $120-160K. Rest assured, some nitwit will show up babbling about making it fit for human use. Some other nitwit will talk about using it for public storage and getting revenue from it.

There is a local government fiscal disaster coming when the reduced valuations of property hit the tax basis.

Local unions can ask all they want - but if the money is not there - well - think Greece. Greeks can strike and bitch all they want - but there ain't no money!
