Agreed. But working with newly formed stars and planets is difficult. Until then, we can develop the recipe; heat water, stir in salt, shake, simmer, etc.

The fat molecules used in cell walls will form via self assembly into membrane walls. That we discovered the conditions for how individual fat molecules self assemble does not imply intelligent design. But, that discovery provides a basis of understanding cell function and how cells are created.

No different for the discovery and understanding of the first chemical encoding systems.

>> I don't know if humans will ever design and assemble some replicating chemical but if they do it will be an example of intelligent design.

The simplest form of self replicating molecule will be a fundamental fact of chemistry. Kinda like oxygen and hydrogen coming together to form water. It will just be a scientfic fact.

Using this fact to build something useful will be the intelligent design.

>>I think you're wrong to look on life as just a bunch of chemicals

Its an honest difference of opinions. But that is what I see. Takes the emotion out of this discussion (for me).

>> the key thing to think about is encoded information.

E-Coli is just a bunch of chemicals with the DNA in a very specific pattern and a specific set of supporting proteins.

As our science progresses, we will be able to start with the component chemicals and build a self-replicating, single cell organism. It is a matter of time.

That life exists, strongly suggests that life can be created. Therein lies a challenge that humans will relentlessly pursue... and achieve!
