Certainly. A faith in man's ability to understand nature. A faith in the man's relentless acquisition of knowledge.

And if it doesn't die, the organism may evolve with a new advantage. After enough changes, a new species will exist.

We are at the point where we can create random DNA sequences and insert them into existing cells to see what happens. No intelligence whatsoever. What does this sequence do? What does that sequence do? Most will be gobbleygook. Some will do something useful.

Eventually, you modify an existing organism or create a new one... without knowing what you are actually doing.
